The last chemo treatment is now officially scheduled for Monday. We can finally see the light at the end of the tunnel. Of course, we will never leave the “cancer world”, and I know now there is no going back to how things were before September 2011. Our new “normal” will involve frequent hospital visits, checkups, regular scans, heart tests, kidney function tests, and the constant fear of a relapse. Elliot still has the port-a-cath, and will probably be keeping it for quite a while, then will have to have an operation to have it removed. In about six months he will have to receive all his childhood vaccinations once again, since these have been destroyed by the chemo. In the meantime, we will still have to be vigilant against him catching any serious illness. But in about 3 weeks his immunity should be back to almost normal levels, and we will head off on a much deserved vacation!
We are celebrating with friends and family on Sunday July 1st at LeCygne in Rolle, from 14h till 17h, and hope to see many of you who have seen us through this difficult time then. In the meantime, here is a video (click on “Elliot’s year”, below) which recaps the past 10 months… The proceeds from the song all go to CURE childhood cancer.
Je ne pourrai pas être là physiquement pour la fête — mais je peux garantir que je vais lever un verre et crier très fort – Santé en honneur d’Elliot.
Le vidéo m’a fait pleuré — j’ai hâte de voir 2012 🙂
Bisous!
Chantal
Quelques blagues pour faire sourire:
Quels fruits cueille-t-on avec un tuba ?
Les fruits de mer !
Quels fruits portent des sous-vêtements ?
Les bananes à slip !
Congratulations to you all for making it through the chemotherapy. True, it doesn’t end here (as you said) but – hey, vacation sounds pretty darn good. Enjoy the party and the rest.
And wonderful video! Elliot looked great in that Halloween costume, and I loved all the Roots clothes.
